This module programme will be held for the first time in Osaka. David Zinder,  the master teacher of Michael Chekhov Technique, will be invited from Michael Chekhov Europe this year. In this module programme, the actors can acquire the multi-dimensional  techniques through 6 modules in the practical and comprehensive way which are consisted of the elements of a stage performance, such as characterization, spaces, time, bodily awareness, and so on. The theme of this WS is ModuleⅠ "Making Contact / Living images". The 5-day WS will give you the opportunity to break your psychological barrier and experience the profound and dynamic acting. On the last day of the WS, the certification will be given to you.

 

  In order to spread this technique to the acting industry in Japan, David Zinder will give a lecture on "The actor imagines with his body". Please check the information of the lecture as well as the WS.

Michael Chekhov Module Programme

1st Module ”Making Contact: Living Images"

 

In order to make our work on stage authentic and alive, we want to get into contact with both our inner images and our emotions within seconds. How do we create and embody images? How do they feed the emotional life of the character? In this workshop we will try to give some answers to these question through psycho-physical exercises in Concentration · Imagination · Gesture · Images in poetry, as well as　basic elements of the Chekhov Technique: Qualities of Movement. Ensemble, Qualities, Sensations　Feelings. The texts we will be working with are Japanese haiku poems, which will be the platform for learning how actors can apply these elements of Chekhov Training in their artistic work.

Lecture "The actor imagines with his body"

 

 “The actor imagines with his body. He cannot avoid gesturing or moving without responding to his own internal images.” (Michael Chekhov)

 

This is the fundamental concept behind the Chekhov Technique – the absolutely natural connection between the body and the imagination in the performance space. This is not limited to any specific form of theatre; it is part of the psycho-physical makeup of actors anywhere in the world.
